COOKING TIPS

REDUCE DOUGH RISING TIME

Making your own bread can be time-consuming. One way to reduce some of the time is to speed up the dough rising process. You can do this by using a microwavable neck wrap. After it has been heated, surround your dough bowl with the wrap. The extra heat will cut the dough rising time in half.

MOTHER'S HIGHER RISING DOUGH

When making dough for a cake or bread, let refrigerated ingredients, such as eggs, milk, cottage cheese, cream cheese, etc., arrive at room temperature before adding to other ingredients. You will be surprised at how much higher your dough will rise during the warming and baking process.

HOMEMAKE YOUR OWN FLAVORED COFFEE

Do you ever find yourself wanting a flavored coffee, but only have regular in your home? Well, here's a unique tip on how to enjoy a good cup of flavored coffee. What's your favorite spice,  Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Allspice, or another one? Simply add it to your coffee grounds. For 10 cups of coffee, add a half teaspoon of spice in the filter of a drip-style coffee maker along with the ground coffee. Brew the coffee as you normally would and enjoy a subtly scented drink.

HERE'S A QUICK WAY TO CHILL A GIBSON MARTINI

Traditionally Gibson Martinis are garnished with olives. After shaking or stirring, for a quick chill on your next Gibson, try garnishing with frozen pearl onions. The frozen pearl onions will not dilute your drink.

GINGER STORAGE

Cut your leftover ginger into small pieces and place in a zipper-lock bag. Store the bag in the freezer for a month or longer. Whenever fresh ginger is needed, pull a piece from the freezer, let it thaw, peel, and grate or chop as required by your recipe.

REMOVING BEET STAINS

Once they are cut, beets can stain everything touching them, including your hands and cutting board. Here's an easy way to remove these stains. Try sprinkling salt on the stain, rub it in a bit, rinse, and then scrub with soap and water. Salt crystals can help lift the beet stain and juices away.
